We broke GEODES this week!

 And learned how to investigate types of rocks….

 And made volcanoes….

 And worked on publishing our Writer's workshop piece!

 AND…….We got to explode our volcanoes using baking soda and vinegar!

Its getting a little ROCKY in first grade!

We explored rocks today!

 And learned about the three types of rocks:  Metamorphic, Sedimentary, and Igneous!

 In between our investigations, we decided to try to make a metamorphic rock out of chocolate chips!
We applied heat and pressure…..

 a metamorphic rock completed!

 (applying more heat and pressure)

THEN, we also DISCOVERED that CHALK is a SEDIMENTARY ROCK!  

So we made SEDMINENTARY CHALK DRAWINGS!!!!

It has been a fantastic day of learning!!!
