First Grade Adventures!: Week of Jan. 13

Reminders:

1. Monday is a TRAILWISE GARDENING day! Please have your child wear JEANS/ ST. PETERS SHIRT/HOODY so they can be comfortable but also get dirty too.

2. Wednesday is a HALF DAY! (Jan. 15 at 11:30) Teacher inservice is all afternoon.

3. Friday, Jan. 17 is PAJAMA DAY if you bring $2. Come support your 5th graders as they raise money for their yearly trip to KANUGA! (And get to be comfy!)

4. Report Cards will go home on Thursday, Jan. 23. Conference Day is JANUARY 24. Please sign up and send back in the conference sheet we sent home. The sooner we get it the sooner we can try to accommodate your schedules=)

5. Scholastic Book orders- due on Wednesday Jan 15. You have two options for ordering: 1. Look online at home, and fill out the order form with the code provided. They send us an email and we submit on Wednesday all at once. 2. OR, you may fill out the order forms, stick in an envelope, and send with a check (made out to Scholastic Books) with the amount. We will input it for you and will mail it. Whatever works for you! Great books and favorite authors!

Uniform Schedule:

Mon, Wed, Thurs. : Regular uniform (Navy, green, rugby polo or dress)

Tuesday: CHAPEL DRESS (White button down shirt, navy pants, red vest)

Friday: Spirit Day shirt, St. Peter's hoody, Jeans.

This week will look a little different for reading homework. In READING, we will be working on NEW FIRST reader books. We will read a story in class and then will take it home each night to read again. We are working on FLUENCY (reading like we are talking) and EXPRESSION ( not talking like robots!). The students have been working SO hard and they are ready for a harder challenge.

If any of you have an iPad or iPhone, we have also been working on MASTERING sight words. There are great APPS simply called "SIGHT WORDS" that we use that help drill knowing these words in a snap!

This week we will be working on STARS, CONSTELLATIONS, and beginning to learn about planets. Our WHOLE hallway is turning into the solar system! It is so much fun and exciting to learn with your children!
