This week we will be learning about Early Civilizations and beginning talking about Egypt.  We will learn about the cradle of civilization, the development of writing/cuniform writing, geography of Egypt, and learn how to write in hieroglyphics.  Its going to be an exciting week!

In math, we will continue to learn addition number stories and will also review counting by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's by dancing!  We have also purchased an account on star fall for educators that has a lot of enrichment math games and puzzles that we will be able to play on the active board.  At the end of the week, we will learn about attributes and will learn how to properly identify them.

In reading, we will continue learning how to read with expression and not like " robots". =) ( This always makes the kids laugh)  We will listen for beginning, middle, and ending sounds in a lot of words and have dictation practice too.  We are talking about animal habitats in our reading books.  In writing, we will be telling stories in itsy-bitsy steps and learn how to bring whats inside out.

This past week we have learned about following directions, whether it be with a compass or with verbal directions.  We read a story that talked about how to make an apple pie, and so we wrote our own how to book this week.  Today we got to make our very own apple pie, and then EAT it!  It was delicious!

Week of Sept 23

Reminders:

1.  Please remember chapel dress is now on Tuesday.

2.  In first grade we are working on learning how to be responsible, especially in the morning.  The students are expected to take their own backpack over to their hook, and unpack it, and get ready for the day.  That being said, we strongly encourage parents if you would like to walk your child in to leave them at the door so that they can begin their day. If there is anything we can help you with please email us and we can schedule a time to meet. Thanks for helping our morning go smoothly!
