Please make sure your child studies their spelling words each week.  We do a lot of spelling in class but the words will continue to get harder!  This week is a little bit lighter load for paperwork on spelling so that your child can work on how he/she learns best.  (kinesthetic, writing them, listening to them, iPads, etc....)

This week in reading we will be learning about different sounds that the SCWHA sound/spelling makes.  (Say "uh"- there are different sounds and spellings that make this sound)  We will also review the ng/nk/kw sounds and spellings also and will be doing a lot of dictation sentences to improve our listening skills.  We will read about the Environment and talk about ways to improve it.  We will be writing about Thanksgiving and a favorite fall memory too.

In math, we will be learning about adding more facts, covering a design in a different way, counting by 10's and then subtracting by 1.

Our theme continues to be Aztec, Inca, and Mayan culture.  We will pause from this and talk about those who fight for our country too.

Here are pictures from gardening today, and other fun things that first graders do!

The first graders have learned about kindness and friendship this month.  They made friendship bracelets and then delivered them to everyone in the school to remind them to be kind!
